Lens Buyers Guide

If you are unsure on the type of lens you need, our experienced optician will help you select the best lens option tailored to your needs, ensuring optimal vision in every situation. Depending on your requirements, you may be recommended single vision, bifocal, or varifocal lenses. Our optician will also discuss available lens extras that can further enhance your vision.

Lens Types

Our Single Vision Lenses, included with every frame at no extra cost, provide a single prescription covering the entire lens. Ideal for individuals with short or long-sightedness, these lenses excel in activities like driving, reading, or computer work. If you’re under 40 and have a single visual requirement, our Single Vision Lenses ensure clear and focused vision. For those over 40, you might need separate glasses for various tasks, like driving or reading. In such cases, bifocal or varifocal lenses could be more suitable.

Varifocal lenses provide clear vision at all distances, seamlessly transitioning power from the top to the bottom of the lens. These lenses offer flexibility for activities like driving, using a computer, shopping, or reading and eliminates the need for swapping between multiple pairs of glasses.

At Specs Oncall we offer four types of varifocal lenses to suit all budgets.

Standard – £50

Designed for presbyopes looking for good vision at all distances. There will be some soft focus at the edge of your vision

Advanced view – £100

An ideal compromise between vision at far and at near, providing the user with the comfort of an all-purpose lens.

Extra-wide view – £160

Individual design that strikes a perfect balance between far and near vision. Provides optimal vision at all distances, with generously wide viewing zones.

Ultra-wide view – £220

Our highest quality varifocal lens with excellent clarity in all viewing zones and the widest field of vision at distance, intermediate and near.

Bifocals have a small segment at the lower part of the lens and combine two different prescriptions into one lens. The upper portion of the lens usually caters to distance vision, while the lower segment is optimised for near or intermediate vision. Bifocals eliminate the need for managing two separate single-vision glasses, making it ideal for everyday use, providing practicality in a single pair.

We offer three types of bifocals:

Standard – £50

Our standard bifocal lenses offer clear vision with segment sizes of 24-28mm. Ideal for everyday tasks, they provide seamless transitions between distance and near vision, ensuring you experience visual comfort in various activities.

Advanced view – £70

For enhanced visual comfort, our Advanced View bifocal lenses feature larger segment sizes of 35-38mm. This design expands your reading area, making it especially beneficial for prolonged near vision activities.

Ultra-wide view Executive bifocal – £130

Executive bifocal lenses feature a line across the whole lens dividing the distance and near vision zones. They offer the widest reading area compared to standard segmented bifocal lenses.

Occupational lenses, often called enhanced readers bridge the gap between reading glasses and varifocals. They are ideal for individuals who spend significant time working on intricate tasks or hobbies that involve both close-up work and viewing objects at a slightly extended distance.
